I was watching a few episodes from the new season of Dr. Who last night & wasn't paying close enough attention to my knitting. This caused me to do an extra repeat of the lace pattern before starting on the heel flap. Oops! Well, I thought, it's not too tall. I will just forge ahead.
I'm really not thrilled with the design of the heel flap for this pattern. It's only 32 sts but it looks huge! I may just have a skewed opinion because I normally do a slip-stitch heel (k1, sl1), which draws the fabric in.
So I'm thinking of ripping back to the correct number of repeats & then doing said slip-stitch heel. What do you think?
Btw- The Swirling Lace Anklets pattern arrived today! Now I just need to get the yarn! Kudos to Spinning Bunny for getting the pattern out so quickly. I will definitely buy from them again!

I vote for the slip stitch heel--I think it makes for a longer-wearing heel.
I feel the same way you do about the heel. It's a little too much stockinette, I think. Next time I want to do mine in the twisted rib pattern of the cuff.
But you know the pattern picture looks so great, maybe we should both just trust that it'll be awesome when we're done!
I'd leave the extra repeat, but do a slip stitch heel. But Alison has a point, so you can just go for it... you've already knit the heel flap after all!
I vote for leaving it as is and continuing. It looks lovely.
I have only just knit my first sock but it had a slip stitch heel and I thought it made a very sturdy heel.
The sock looks beautiful so far. Love the pattern.
I'm not in any position yet to comment on the best construction of a heel, being as how I've only knit one pair of socks and it had an easy, but wonky heel (knit straight down and sew the bottom together). Love the pattern. You're a great knitter. :)
